Hi All,

I just purchased a Graflex Roll Back - RH 20. The problem I'm having is the counter - when it arived the counter was at exposure 8 so I advanced all the why to the end just to see if it worked and now I can't seem to set it to zero, the counter knob seems locked. Also I can not move the advance lever anymore. I tried the other links at this site but no info to help me was found. Any ideas?

Best Regards,

John V.

Since nobody has responded to this one, I'll try to tackle it. (By the way, I'm assuming you have no experience with these film holders; if that's not the case, please pardon me if what I say is too detailed.) Now when you say that you advanced all the way to the end---if you just stopped at "20" you're not at the end yet. Give the release tab another flick and you should be able to move the film advance lever beyond "20" and into "no man's land" between "20" and "S". At this point the lever will "free-wheel". This is where you load your film: full spool on the left, empty (take-up) spool on the right (under the lever). Thread the film backing paper around behind the full spool, then around the roller and across the front of the holder to the other roller, and into the slot in the empty (take-up) spool. Now crank the film advance lever until the two arrows line up---the big vertical one on the roll film backing paper and the little painted one on the underside of the top of the film holder. Put the film holder into the shell, close it up, and with dark slide in place set the film counter to "S" (it will click-stop in place), then work the film advance lever several times (usually about five full cranks) until it stops. At this point the film counter should be at "1" and your first frame is in position, ready to shoot.

By the way, you can use 120 (as well as 220) roll film in the RH20 roll holder. Just be sure to remember to stop taking pictures after you pass "10"!
