Has anyone ever seen one of these? A rather cheesy cast aluminum Graflex copy, sort of, made by Rex Laboratories of Indianapolis, IN.
I just got one off eBay for 37.00.
I've only ever seen one other on the market. Mine is in very nice shape. It has front rise of 2 inches but no other movements. Accepts wood Speed Graphic lens boards. No rear shutter. The whole focus track mechanism is laughably crappy but works ok. With a little more thought in it's design, it could have been a very good quality camera. Maybe it's a 4X5 Holga. I haven't been able to find any history on it.

I looked for it in McKeown's and did not see anything like a press camera under that name. Is Rex the model label, or the manufacturer? Mckeowan's is pretty comprehensive, and lists things even if they are pretty rare. |

There is only a small name plate riveted to the back under the GG focus panel. It has the name and city of the manufacturer and the serial number. No other markings. Like I said, I have only run across one other of these on the market and it may be the same one, for all I know. I just don't beliieve that's the case, though. Could it be a prototype??
The Shadow knows --------- ;>)
Oh, I have a couple of other cameras that are not listed in McKeown's. Maybe I should contact them.

Nobody else knows so I'll throw out some guesses-))
It was made post WWII by a company looking for something to do. Maybe in the LA area? They then found out it was easier doing something other then making cameras. |

Sorry can't read some days-(( I was thinking it might be similar to that twin rail camera. Vue? It was made in the LA area but a group that supposedly had made aircraft parts during the war. |

Now THAT was a clunker. However, it was better made than this Rex.
