I have a 4 x 5 Crown Graphic Special that I have had for a while and had always thought that it was manufactured in the late 60's.
I looked all over the camera body including under the outer crosspiece of the lenstrack (where I found only the number 17 in purple stamped)and could not found the usual code (such as K4J which is for my Grafmatic).
So I was hoping that Les could help me pin a date on this camera, the body serial number is 939928 and the lens is a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 135mm f/4.7 lense, serial number 6247356.
I include the lens info only for reference as I don't recall anyone having a list of dates for this lens, but I am presuming it was from the same time frame as the body.
I want to thank Les for taking the time to provide this service to us, it's people like him, and all of us here, who help to keep the magic of these old cameras alive in this day and age by passing on info and advice to each other. |

schnieder's serial data can be found here:
http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/age_of_lenses/
No. 6 million came out in May of 59, 7million came out in Feb '61 At that rate your lens was made with in a month of #6million!!!
The body serial number dates the camera to mid '59 which is consistant with the date codes. I haven't seen any before 1960 |
